USA 2YO of the Year to enter stud duties in Victoria
Major In Art, last year’s USTA 2YO Pacing Colt of the Year and one of the most outstanding sons of former champion pacer Art Major, the leading sire of juveniles in North America and Australia, has been retired and will stand his first season at Stallion Station’s Victorian base this spring.
The brilliant colt, who swept all before him in a stellar freshman year in 2008 amassing a whopping $US849,154 in 10 starts, suffered a leg injury while training for this year’s three-year-old Grand Circuit forcing his premature retirement.
Major For Art was staked for more than $6million in purses this year including the Little Brown Jug, North America Cup, Breeders Crown, Meadowlands Pace, Messenger and Cane Pace.
While the colt failed to realise his full potential on the racetrack, his worth as a future stud horse is immeasurable.
Major In Art, currently based in New Jersey, will shortly enter quarantine and is expected to arrive in Victoria in August. He will stand at Stallion Station’s Australian base at Toolern Vale, on the northern outskirts of Melbourne, at a fee of $5000 plus GST.
Major In Art is one of the best-bred, best-performed horses ever bought for stud duties in this country. He took a two-year-old mark of 1:50.8, winning the $350,000 Woodrow Wilson Pace at The Meadowlands in which he defeated Mysticism and Vertigo Hanover.
Undoubtedly the highlight of his career was his win in the $950,000 Metro Pace – the world’s richest two-year-old race – run at Mohawk, Canada, in 1:51.4 with halves in 55.4 and 56 seconds.
His other successes included a $41,800 division of the Goshen Cup and a $25,000 elimination of the Breeders Crown, both at The Meadowlands.
One of the second crop of Art Major, Major In Art belongs to one of the most distinguished families of sires in the American stud book, that founded by Hall of Fame broodmare The Old Maid.
He is out of the Jate Lobell mare Miami Spice 3, 1:54.8, the dam of five winners from seven foals with three in 2:00 and a half-sister to the multiple Stakes winner Tattler’s Torpedo 1:53.8 ($400,737), Life Is A Cabaret 1:50.4 ($865,396) the Hayes Memorial winner Mr Tuff Guy 1:54.8 ($109,825 and Black Tattler 1:50.
Major In Art has the bloodlines and race record to become a world class sire.
Stallion Station is offering special breeding entitlements in Major In Art for $16,000 plus GST per package. The entitlement covers a five-year period with two breeds in the 2009/10 and 2010/11 stud seasons and one each for 2011/12, 2012/13 and 2013/14.
