Mysta Magical Mach WA Horse of the Year

Congratulations to breeder Kevin Fairbairn and the connections of the newly crowned Western Australian Harness of the Year, Mysta Magical Mach.

Dubbed the ‘iron horse’ of WA racing, the New Zealand bred son of Mach Three compiled the outstanding season’s record of 31 starts for 15 wins and 11 placings for $539,900, which ranked him third on the national list behind Mr Feelgood and Blacks A Fake.

Largely unheralded at the outset of the term, Mysta Magical Mach grabbed the imagination of WA trotsgoers with a string of Herculean like performances.

His most important win came in the $400,000 Group 1 WA Pacing Cup at Gloucester Park, defeating a top field including Divisive, Sneakyn Down Under, Washakie and Fleur De Lil.

Mysta Magical Mach WA Horse of the YearMysta Magical Mach’s other successes included the $35,000 Group 3 Lord Mayor’s Cup, Pinjarra 4YO Classic (Listed), $30,000 Bunbury Cup and the $35,000 Xmas Gift Final. He was also placed in the WA Golden Nugget, Governor’s Cup, Winter Cup and Howard Porter Memorial.

Filip for Royal Mattjesty

The exciting, young Matt’s Scooter horse Royal Mattjesty hit the headlines in three countries over the past three weeks.

Bay Girl, one of his first North American crop, started the ball rolling when she captured a $40,000 elimination of the Ontario Sires Stakes Gold series at Windsor Raceway on September 30. Leading from the start, the brilliant filly cut the mile in 1:54 and advanced her lifetime stakes total to $186,722.

Royal Mattjesty has sired 13 two-year-old winners from 27 starters and they have earned $353,883 in stakes between them.

A yearling colt called Pointed Victory by Royal Mattjesty realised the good price of $40,000 on Day 4 of the Lexington Selected Yearling Sale in Kentucky.

Closer to home, Royal Em, a multiple placegetter as a two-year-old, broke maiden ranks at his first start at three at Redcliffe on October 19 to become Royal Mattjesty’s third individual winner from his first Australian crop (19 foals).

NZ Sires’ Stakes heat winners

Stallion Station sires will be well represented in the $200,000 Group 1 NZ Sires’ Stakes 3YO Final, to be run at Addington on New Zealand Cup Day (November 10).

Kotare Mach, the winner of the Addington heat, and Motu Crusader, who took the Forbury Park heat, were sired by Mach Three and Courage Under Fire respectively.

Kotare Mach, a Sires’ Stakes heat winner at two, was particularly impressive. Having his first start since May, the colt sped straight to the front from the No. 4 gate and thereafter gave Mark Purdon an armchair drive to win untouched by two-and-a-half lengths.

He rated 1:58.6 for the 1950 metres mobile with the last half in a blazing 56.2 seconds and quarter in 26.1.

Motu Crusader notched his second win from three attempts, posting final sectionals in 30.1 and 27.6 for an overall mile rating of 1:59.1.

Pacific Fella’s great start

A Top Ten sire last season, Pacific Fella has continued the good work into the new season.

He has already produced 22 individual winners and they have won 34 races and almost $150,000 in stakes.

They include the Tabcorp Park winners Mendelico, who twice recorded 1:56.9, and Thats Mister Ali 1:55.9, Schinzig Buller, the winner of a WA Country Cup heat in 1:56.4, and Rambooka 1:57.5 (Albion Park).

The Globe Derby Park winners Sir Martinez and Have A Swig and the impressive Dougie Ray 1:59.6 (7 wins from 12 starts) have been other good performers for Pacific Fella.

Total Truth arrives at Stud

We have already received strong interest from discerning breeders in all States who have been impressed by his outstanding race record and superb bloodlines.

Total Truth, who won four out of seven as a two-year-old, went on to become one of the great three-year-olds of the modern era.

From 19 starts at three he posted eight wins and seven placings and a whopping $1,494,222 in stakes. Besides his North America Cup triumph, Total Truth captured such classics as the $300,000 Cane Pace, $450,000 Hoosier Cup, $350,000 Progress Pace and $100,000 Burlington Pace.
