Breeding season opensThis newsletter marks the beginning of the 2009/10 breeding season and with the announcement of several high-profile additions to our stallion roster and recent rains, together with an extensive marketing and promotional campaign, we are confident that it will be our biggest year yet. Stallion Station will have 16 stallions in service for the coming season at our two farms -Toolern Vale and Christchurch - with all boasting great racetrack records matched up by world class pedigrees. In addition to the proven sires Mach Three, Courage Under Fire and Pacific Fella – all Top Ten stallions – and Riverboat King, we have bolstered the ‘team’ with several exciting newcomers in USA 3YO of the Year Total Truth, 2YO of the Year Major In Art, the Breeders Crown winner Santanna Blue Chip, ‘Cups King’ Safari and the Meadowlands Pace winner Allamerican Theory. For the trotting enthusiasts we have secured a pair of world class stallions, Majestic Son and Muscle Mass, who, together with Armbro Invasion, will provide an imposing lineup of trotting sires. Other sires in Royal Mattjesty, Attorney General and Town Champion are poised to make a real impact on the Australasian breeding scene over the next few years, with the first named already a leading sire of two-year-olds in Canada.
Captain Joy 3YO of the Year
It was a fitting reward for a truly magnificent season that saw the pint-sized son of Mach Three win 12 of his 13 starts and $382,576 in stakes. He won four races at Group 1 level including the Victoria, New South Wales and Queensland Derbys and the NSW Breeders Challenge Final. With a lifetime tally of $690,101, Captain Joy is the richest Australian-bred progeny of Mach Three. Furthermore, Captain Joy’s dam, Lady Joy, was named the Australian Broodmare of the Year for 2009. Pacific Fella’s flying startThe Cam Fella horse Pacific Fella, who enjoyed a banner year in 2008/09, continues to do what he does best…sire winners. With the new season only four weeks old, Pacific Fella is already been credited with 15 individual winners and they have earned in excess of $80,000 in stakes. They include Motu Fella, a 1:55.8 Albion Park winner, Mendelico 1:58.2, Rambooka 1:58.8, Cuzin Judd (Gloucester Park), Barriettas Joy, Dutch Cream 1:59.8 and Gabilouise 2:00 (Menangle). |
Royal Mattjesty’s exciting first cropThe Matt’s Scooter horse Royal Mattjesty, who shuttles between Canada and Australia, is a leading sire with his first North American crop of two-year-olds. Of 57 foals, he has had 27 starters to date and 13 are winners with six in 2:00. One of his progeny, Bay Girl, set an early season’s mark of 1:52.2 winning the $130,000 Ontario Sires Stakes Gold Final at Mohawk. She has amassed over $180,000. Ok Canada 1:56.6, an OSS heat winner, Kim’s Quest 1:54.8, Tigers Mattjesty 1:55.2 and Uncle Goodfellow1:58.6 have been other good performers from Royal Mattjesty’s first crop.
Total Truth attracts interestTotal Truth, the former US 3YO of the Year and Pacer of the Year, is attracting widespread interest from broodmare owners. The 1:48 $2million earning son of Jennas Beach Boy was one of the best three-year-olds of all-time, capturing Group races such as the $1.5million North America Cup, Hoosier Cup, Burlington Pace and Progress Pace. He won every year from 2 to 5 years and won 18 races including four in better than 1:50. Only a six-year-old, Total Truth's pedigree is well known to Australian breeders. His sire Jennas Beach Boy was a leading sire of two and three-year-olds in NSW, while his dam, Babe Ruthless, is by Walton Hanover, a top sire in Victoria. Babe Ruthless ranks as a full sister to Totally Ruthless, sire of Inter Dominion Grand Final winner Baltic Eagle, and belongs to a terrific family of sires. Danielle Lang joins staffDanielle Lang, a daughter of Gavin Lang and a member of one of harness racing’s best known families, recently joined the staff at Stallion Station’s Toolern Vale farm. Danielle works in the laboratory and assists with the office duties. She will be a valuable asset to our staff during the breeding season. |
