Art Official to stand at Stallion Station

Stallion Station is excited to be able to offer Australasian Breeders Crown and World Champion ART OFFICIAL, the fastest and richest son of Champion Sire Art Major, at stud in the coming season.

Stallion Station Chairman Gary Lyons said: “We are very excited about this opportunity to work with Joe Muscara and his family to bring ART OFFICIAL to Australasia, to stand alongside the established sire MACH THREE at Stallion Stallion’s Mandeville Road base in Canterbury. Both Stallions will provide a great opportunity for breeders in the lucrative futurity stakes schemes in New Zealand and Australia.”

ART OFFICIAL, who took a record of 1:47 at three, won 18 races and 23 placings from 54 starts earning $2,082,085.

At two, he paced eight sub 1:53 miles and was staked placed in seven of his starts.

At three, ART OFFICIAL took his mark of 1:47 winning the $1.1million Meadowlands Pace, handing North American ‘Pacer of the Decade’ Somebeachsomewhere the only defeat in his 21-start career!

Also at three, ART OFFICIAL won the $293,000 Tattersalls Pace in 1:48.6, the $500,000 Hoosier Cup, $134,000 Bluegrass in 1:48.6, the $392,000 Cane Pace elimination and final, and a heat of the Little Brown Jug (3rd in Final), earning over $1.5 million.

Returning at 4, ART OFFICIAL finished in the money in 13 of 19 starts, established a mark of 1:47.8 and earned $476,157 to bring his career earnings to over the $2million mark. As a further example of his latent speed, Art Official reeled of a bristling 25.6 seconds last quarter to capture the Indiana Pacing Derby in October 2009.

Driver Ron Pierce said: “I don’t know if I have ever driven a horse with more wicked speed than ART OFFICIAL. He has the ability to leave the gate faster (25.4) than any horse that I have sat behind and still have enough in the tank to pace home in an amazing 25.6.”

“His World Record in the Meadowlands Pace to give Somebeachsomewhere his only defeat will be remembered. It has been an honour to drive such a great athlete.”

ART OFFICIAL was a champion juvenile pacer in his own right, pacing 15 times in under 1:50 and had 18 career wins at an average time of 1:50.8 – winning 6 in sub 1:50.  Art Official established world records on all-sized tracks – mile (1:47), five-eighths (1:49.4) and half (1:50.8).

He is the only horse ever to win in under 1:48 at 3 and 4.

ART OFFICIAL met and defeated top horses such as Somebeachsomewhere 1:46.2 ($3.2m), Won The West 1:47 ($2.1m), Shark Gesture 1:48.1 ($1.8m), Santanna Blue Chip 1:51.3 ($1.6m) and Badlands Nitro 1:50 ($1.5m).

Only a five-year-old, ART OFFICIAL is by  Art Major  out of the 100 percent producing Falcon Seelster mare Naughty Shady Lady and his dam belongs to the immediate family of thrice USA Pacing Mare of the Year Shady Daisy ($1.8m) and the Little Brown Jug winner Shady Character ($1.2m).

ART OFFICIAL was heavily booked in his first season at stud in North America at the prestige Kentuckiana Farm, Pennsylvania.

ART Official’s service fee will be $6,000 plus GST in New Zealand and $6,600 including GST in Australia and will be a part of Stallion Station’s multiple discounts scheme.
