Mach Three 3YO smashes Australasian recordThe brilliant Mach Three colt Kotare Mach set fresh Australasian figures for a three-year-old when he scorched around the Ashburton track on Labour Day (October 26) in 1:53.
Kotare Mach in Action The time was one-tenth of a second inside the previous record of Tintin In America in the Stallion Station Emerald at the same venue last May. It was only 1.1 secs. outside the all-aged Australasian mark of 1:53 recorded by Smoken Up at Menangle in June 2008. Driven by co-trainer Mark Purdon, Kotare Mach exploded to the front from his inside barrier and thereafter proceeded to run his eleven more experienced rivals off their legs. After reaching the half-way point in 57.6, the brilliant speedster carved out sectionals of 28 and 27.4 to score by an ever-increasing 11 lengths. Kotare Mach had a two-year-old of 1:56.5. He boasts the fine record of nine starts for five wins and a placing and $105,350. Bred by Tony Abell’s Kotare Downs Limited, Kotare Mach is out of the Butler B G mare Extra B G, a member of the strong Davita branch of the Rita Bell tribe. Extra B G had left earlier winners in Kotare Jago 2:02.7, Kotare Yalta 2:04.4 and Kotare Yoyo. The colt will next be targeted at the $200,000 Group 1 NZ Sires’ Stakes Final at Addington on New Zealand Cup Day where he is certain to start a short-priced favourite. He will be joined in the Final by another Mach Three colt in Sir Lincoln, who was an impressive winner of the Auckland heat on October 23. Sir Lincoln, a winner of four out of five this season, looms as the biggest threat to Kotare Mach on Cup Day.
Stallion Station to sponsor Fremantle CupStallion Station will sponsor the time-honoured Fremantle Pacing Cup, one of the jewels of the WA Summer Carnival, for the third year in a row. To be raced in a new December timeslot, the $250,000 Grand Circuit feature will be conducted over 2902 metres from the standing start at Gloucester Park. The Fremantle Club has already fielded strong enquiry from New Zealand owners and trainers for the discretionary handicap race on Friday, December 4. The Fremantle Cup is the first of three Grand Circuit races to be staged in Perth in the 2009/10 season. Stallion Station, through its WA-based directors Gary Lyons, Joe Iemma and Robert Watson, has strong links with the Fremantle Club.
Total Truth’s sireTotal Truth, the latest addition to Stallion Stallion’s Victorian roster, is a member of sireline that is well known to Australian breeders. His sire, Jennas Beach Boy, left the winners of $3.5millions from three ‘Down Under’ crops, while his grandsire Beach Towel and great grandsire French Chef were both highly successful at stud. Sands A Flyin, the sire of the NZ stars Monkey King and Sly Flyin, belongs to this sireline. With a bankroll of $2,022,433, Total Truth is the richest-ever son of Jennas Beach Boy. On his dam’s side, Total Truth has something in his favour. He is out of Babe Ruthless, a daughter of leading Victorian sire Walton Hanover and a full sister to US 2YO of the Year and Inter Dominion-winning sire Totally Ruthless. Total Truth was the USA Pacer of the Year and 3YO Colt of the Year in 2006. The North American Cup and Cane Pace winner is lining up for his first season at stud. |
More Joy for the ‘Captain’The record breaking season of the Mach Three gelding Captain Joy just keeps getting better. The triple derby winner, who won 12 of his 13 starts and $382,576, was voted the NSW Horse of the Year and 3YO of the Year at the NSW Awards Night held in Sydney last weekend. He had earlier won the coveted Australian 3YO of the Year award. Captain Joy’s dam, Lady Joy (by Talk About Class), was adjudged the Australian Broodmare of the Year for 2008/09. New $100,000 Club memberThe widely travelled six-year-old The Jamaican became the latest Pacific Fella progeny to earn a six-figure amount when he scored in Free-for-all company at Gloucester Park last Friday (October 23). He clocked a very smart 1:57.8. It was his fifth win at the Perth headquarters’ track and his 13th lifetime. He boasts a bankroll of $110,599. The Jamaican, who was bred by Peter and Craig Judd, is one of Pacific Fella’s first Australian crop. He is the last foal of the lightly raced Entrepreneur mare Nola Sands, the dam of five winners from six to race.
Pacific Fella, one of Australia’s leading winner-producing sires in the 2008/09 season, is carrying on the good work into the new season. To date he is represented by 26 individual winners including the Tabcorp Park winner Thats Mister Ali 1:55.8, Mendelico 1:56.9, Motu Fella 1:55.8, Rambooka 1:57.5, Dougie Ray, Waterslide and Have A Swig. Runaway on fireNew South Wales gelding Runaway Fire is proving a great advertisement for his sire Courage Under Fire. The excitement machine is undefeated in four attempts since September 1 and has won 13 of his 21 start career. A 1:55.7 Menangle winner, Runaway Fire has looked super impressive winning his last two starts at Harold Park and should continue to work through the grades in Sydney. Interestingly, Runaway Fire is out of a daughter of the little known Theo Lobell and his dam’s third foal and best winner. Stakes winner for ‘Righteous’The three-year-old I’d Rather Be Lucky, a member of Righteous Hanover’s first small North American crop, won in select company in Canada recently. Contesting a heat of the BC Breeders Stake at Fraser Downs, the filly led from start to finish in 1:59.4 to notch her third success. She has stake earnings of $53,852 and a lifetime mark of 1:56.
