Five Winners on One Day!

Stallion Station sires had a day out at the Waimate meeting in South Canterbury last Sunday. We produced no less than five winners on the 11-race card including a treble for Courage Under Fire!

Courage’s winners were the 3YO Jellignite, Elite Under Fire (his 5th win) and Woman In Black.

Mach Three was represented by a ‘new’ winner in Miracle Mach, while Armbro Invasion sired the trotting winner Lexie Highlander.

Bumper Week for ‘Courage’

Our brilliant stallion Courage Under Fire enjoyed a bumper week in the first week of December, producing an amazing 17 individual winners including three ‘new’ winners.

Heading the list was last season’s top New Zealand three-year-old Franco Jamar, who led in a ‘Courage’ trifecta at the Addington meeting last Saturday.

Former Kiwi Live Courage, now in the John Tapp barn, scored back-to-back wins at Menangle and Bankstown, while his younger sibling Its Dutch Courage prevailed at Geelong.

Other Courage Under Fire winners for the week included Just Got The Look 1:59.3 (Menangle), Boro Magic (Geelong), Landscape (Maryborough), Racy Rascal (Gold Coast) and Oneheart Twofists (Harvey).

Courage Under Fire has already left 92 winners and progeny earnings of more than $1million this season.

Gloucester Park Treble

We landed a notable winning treble at Gloucester Park last Friday in Eastwood Fire (by
Courage Under Fire), who won the WA Celebrity Sprint Consolation in a new lifetime mark of 1:54.6, The Jamaican 1:55.4 (by Pacific Fella)and Millwood Meg 1:56.3 (by
Mach Three).

Other major metropolitan winners over the weekend included the Courage Under
Fire pair Glenferrie Alexis, a most impressive winner at Tabcorp Park in 1:57.4; and
Pembrook Benny, who downed a strong field in the Free-for-all at Alexandra Park in
1:57.7; the Mach Three trio Rotkara Stella 1:59.2, Raza Sharp Lombo 1:59.5 and
Taiaha; and the Albion Park trotting winner Rarangi Gold (by Armbro Invasion).

Mach Three Quinellas Canadian Feature

The Mach Three two-year-old filly Mach Lady completed a clean sweep of the Autumn
Stakes Series when she won the $50,000 final at Woodbine last Thursday (December 9).

Mach Lady

The winner of the elimination a week earlier, Mach Lady settled down in third position
until driver Jody Jamieson sent her to the front at the halfway point in 58.4. She
continued to lead her rivals past the three quarters in 1:28.8 and well into the home
stretch.

Despite the pocket sitting Wiskywishy Nancy O (by Mach Three) making a concerted
late bid, Mach Lady held on to win by a nose. The mile was covered in 1:56.6.

It was Mach Lady’s fourth win and sent hear earnings over the $70,000 mark. From a
Big Towner mare, the filly ranks as a half-sister to the multiple Stakes-winning With
Anticipation 1:47.4 ($467,179).

Mattjesty’s ‘New’ Winner

The quaintly named Thirtysixtoes became the latest winner for our brilliant, young Matt’s Scooter horse Royal Mattjesty when she saluted at Hobart last Sunday (December 5).

Out of a Holmes Hanover mare, Thirtysixtoes had been working strongly at home and the manner of her win suggests she could take a far tighter mark.

Royal Mattjesty has now sired eight individual winners from his first Australian crop of 19 foals – an impressive 42 percent strike rate!

Majestic Son Filly Impresses

There has been some glowing reports on the first small Australasian crop of millionaire square-gaiter Majestic Son in New Zealand.

Regal Petite, a two-year-old filly out of the Sundon mare Petite’s Pride, a daughter of international trotting star Pride Of Petite, has shown up at the Pukekohe trials recently.

Owner-trainer Pauline Screen said the $50,000 NZ yearling sales buy looks certain to be two-year-old material.

Majestic Son in Demand

On the subject of trotters, Majestic Son 3, 1:52.2 ($1.9million), the richest square-gaiter
ever imported ‘Down Under’, has again attracted a high level of interest from breeders on
both sides of the Tasman in his services.

The former Canadian Horse of the Year and Breeders Crown champion has already
served in excess of 80 mares, with a very high percentage getting in foal.

Majestic Son covered 119 mares in his first commercial Australasian season in 2009.

We eagerly await his first North American-bred two-year-olds to reach the racetracks
next year.

Mighty Mendelico Sensational at Stawell

Pacific Fella’s star daughter Mendelico proved she will be a force on this season’s
Victorian Country Cups circuit when she trounced her rivals in the $30,000 Group 3
Stawell Pacing Cup last Sunday (December 12).

Beginning like a rocket from a 10 metre handicap, the five-year-old was sent to the top
inside the first lap by driver John Caldow. She was never afterwards headed.

Despite being sternly challenged by Village Of Dreams in the last lap, Mendelico was
always travelling well within herself and, popped the question by Caldow rounding the
home turn, scooted clear with an unassailable lead.

She eventually won – easing down – by eight metres, rating a smart 2:02.1 for the 2590
metres standing start.

The 2009 George Johnson winner boasts the splendid record of 17 wins from 32 starts
and $173,548 and she is entitled to be rated as Australia’s second finest female pacer
behind the mighty Make Mine Cullen.

Out of a Maverick Almahurst mare, Mendelico carries three strong strains of Meadow
Skipper in the first four removes of her family tree. She also can claim the blood of U
Scott (twice) and Jack Potts on her distaff side.

With his oldest Australian stock seven-year-olds, Pacific Fella boasts a most impressive
winners-to-foals strike rate of almost 40 percent. The millionaire son of the great Cam
Fella has left the winners of $5.7million in Australia to date for an average of $20,615 per
starter.

Royal Mattjesty 1-3 in Rich Autumn Stakes

The $60,000 Autumn Stakes Final for three-year-old fillies, held at Woodbine last Friday
(December 10), proved a triumph for Royal Mattjesty as the sire of the winner Full
Circle Hope and the third placegetter Full Circle Patty.

After settling fourth, Full Circle Hope was shuffled back to second last rounding the
home turn as the lead changed several times.

Full Circle Hope

Switched to the outside by Rick Zeron, Full Circle Hope unleashed a withering finishing
flourish to prevail in the final few strides, stopping the clock in 1:54.2.

Out of a Fundamentalist (by Albatross) mare, Full Circle Hope improved her season’s scorecard to 21 starts for five wins and five placings and $79,475 in stakes. She holds a record of 1:53.

Riverboat Riding High

Our brilliant, young stallion Riverboat King has climbed into fourth position on this
year’s US three-year-old sires’ list for average earnings per foal.

As at December 14, Riverboat’s three-year-olds had banked an average of $37,350. The
Lady Maud winner Anndrovette ($568,145) was the main contributor to Riverboat’s
tally.

Three of the Stallion Station roster, Riverboat King (4th), Mach Three (10th) and Royal
Mattjesty (17th), figured in the Top Twenty list.

Pedigree Profile: Franco Jamar

Franco Jamar, who won the NZ Southern Supremacy Stakes last season as a three-year-old  and was a brilliant first-up winner at Addington last Saturday, is the result of one of the golden crosses in modern day standardbred breeding, that of Courage Under Fire over a Falcon Seelster mare.

The WA Lord Mayor’s Cup winner Talk To Me Courage 1:55.5 ($216,248), the Kumeu Cup winner Pembrook Benny 1:57.3 ($295,264), Franco Ambassador 1:56.6 and Motu Crusader 1:56.9 were bred on the identical cross.

Only a four-year-old, Franco Jamar boasts the excellent scorecard of 23 starts for 11 wins, four placings and $151,343 in stakes.

Bred by Spreydon Lodge Stud, Franco Jamar is the third foal of the dual winner Jamel Franco 1:57.7, by Falcon Seelster from the Smooth Fella mare Joy’s Girl 1:59.3, who belongs to the strong Dillon’s Pride branch of the Harold’s Rest family.

This is the same arm as top performers such as Victor Supreme (2 Inter Dom. heats), Bonny Willow 1:55.1TT, Max Brydon and Soky’s Dream (SA Oaks) also belong.

Jamel Franco is also the dam of the four-time Tabcorp Park Melton winner Mister GNP 1:57.9 and a Courage Under Fire yearling colt who will be offered at the Premium Gold sale in Melbourne next February.

Now being bred from by South Australian enthusiast Bruce McDonald, Jamel Franco was served again by Courage Under Fire last Monday.

Jamel Franco is a half-sister to eight winners including the Albion Park winners Joyous Franco 1:56.3 and Noosa Heads 1:57.7, Jessie Franco 1:56.8, Franco Jurist (Harold Park) and Hanovers Joy (Globe Derby Park).

Franco Jamar boasts four strong crosses of Meadow Skipper blood in his family tree. There are five strains of Adios, four of Tar Heel and a hint of Overtrick, Light Brigade, U Scott and Dillon Hall, all champion sires and broodmare sires.
