Courage Double at Tabcorp ParkOur champion sire Courage Under Fire landed a winning double and came within a length of an unprecedented treble on Group 1 Victoria Cup night at Tabcorp Park Melton last Saturday.
Glenferrie Alexis and Gilt Bromac, a pair of New Zealand bred daughters of ‘Courage”, were both ultra impressive winning support events on the big 10-race card. Glenferrie Alexis, one of the ‘finds’ of the Victorian season, divebombed her rivals from near last to complete a hat trick and send her earnings over the $150,000 plateau. Meanwhile, Gilt Bromac came from worse than midfield to win by a clear margin in a 1:57.8 rate for the 2240 metres mobile and post her 21st lifetime win. Both will be well in line for the rich mares’ classics in the autumn. The Courage Under Fire gelding The Sleepy Tripp produced the ‘run of the night’ to beat all but Mr Feelgood in the $425,000 Victoria Cup. Absolute last at the bell, the Mark Purdon trained and driven star finished at the rate of knots down the outside, cutting out the last half in sub 55 seconds. ‘Courage’ was represented by no less than 14 individual winners in three different countries for the week. He sired the quinella pair Can Return Fire and Pablito in the Fred Doy Memorial Free-for-all at Gloucester Park, the 1:56.8 Menangle winner My Bravado and Dark Cameo 1:59.4 (Globe Derby), Flem N Em, an ex-Kiwi won in 1:52 flat at Woodbine, Canada, while in New Zealand, he was represented by the Addington winner Fastroundtown and Choise Achiever, who notched his eighth win from 11 starts at Rangiora. NZ Feature Race WinnersThe Stallion Station sired Fayanni and All The Way captured feature races in New Zealand last weekend. Fayanni, an Armbro Invasion mare, successfully defended her $25,000 Northern Trotting Breeders Stakes title when she downed a strong field in the Group 3 feature at Alexandra Park last Friday. Coming off 30 metres, Fayanni settled handily before breeder-owner-trainer Luk Chin sent her to the front and, maintaining a solid tempo, she packed too many guns for her rivals. |
The win took Fayanni past $150,000 in stakes earnings and she is entitled to be rated as one of the best trotting mares in commission. Batavia Jack Bounces BackRighteous Hanover’s leading son Batavia Jack made a triumphant return to the winner’s circle at Harvey last Thursday. Coming from an awkward back row draw, the three-year-old was locked in a zip fastener pocket for most of the trip. Gaining racing room soon after straightening, Batavia Jack quickly hit top gear and exploded to the front in the final stages. Batavia Jack, who was twice placed at Group level at 2, looks certain to measure up to the Derby and other three-year-old classics in the New Year. Metro Winners GaloreOur sires produced winners at metropolitan tracks in six States over the weekend. Red Army (by Mach Three) started the ball rolling when he prevailed at the farewell meeting at Harold Park last Friday. On the same night Millwood Meg 1:58.4 (by Mach Three) and Can Return Fire 1:56.8 (by Courage Under Fire) scored at Gloucester Park. Other metro winners included Dutch Cream (by Pacific Fella), a 1:56.8 Menangle winner, Raza Sharp Lombo (by Mach Three), Our Aussie Invasion (by Armbro Invasion) and One Fellas Fancy 1:58.3 (by Pacific Fella). Holiday HoursStallion Sation in Australia and New Zealand will remain open as usual throughout the holiday season. The only change being that from January 1 2011, New Zealand will change their collection days from 'odd' numbered days to 'even'. Season’s GreetingsThe directors and staff of Stallion Station wish all our valued clients, supporters and sponsors a Very Merry Christmas and lots of winners in 2011.
