Mister Big Touches Down

The greatest ever pacing stallion MISTER BIG has just arrived in Australia. The plane touched down earlier today carrying a list of top pacing shuttle stallions, none better than this world beater. He will head to quarantine immediately, before heading to his home for the next 6 months at Stallion Station.

MISTER BIG, who earned $4,135,492 and was twice voted USA Aged Horse of the Year, is the richest pacing stallion in the history of the sport.

He twice established single-season records for earnings, equaled the world record of 1:48 on a five-eighths track and is only the second pacer ever to surpass $4million in stake earnings.

MISTER BIG won 34 races and was 31 times placed from 85 starts, winning on all-sized tracks and against the best company from 2 to 6 years. He paced 18 miles in 1:49 or better and took a lifetime record of 1:47.8. He earned $1.53 million in 2008 and $1.3 million in 2007; both set single year records for stakes.

Among his list of major race successes were the $702,000 Canadian Pacing Derby, $650,000 William Haughton Memorial (twice), $532,150 Breeders Crown, $500,000 Ben Franklin, $332,000 US Pacing Championship (twice), $317,000 Bob Quillen Memorial, $200,000 Dan Patch Invitational, $200,000 American National and $169,000 Allerage Stake (three times).

He went in 1:49.2 as a three-year-old in an elimination of the Breeders Crown, defeating the top youngsters Artistic Fella and Shark Gesture, before finishing runner-up to Shark Gesture in the Final.

In winning the 2007 Aquarius Series Final at The Meadowlands, MISTER BIG came from ninth at the half-mile, and despite racing three wide for the last panel, produced a last half in an amazing 52.2 seconds!

Trainer Virgil Morgan Jnr said: “He has all the attributes to be a great sire. He’s got the look. He’s got the conformation. He’s got the intelligence. I don’t even want to say a good sire; I think he’ll make a great sire. He’s so tactical. He’s won first over in 1:47 and he’s won on the front end in 1:48. He’s so versatile. Horses like that are so hard to come by. I think he’s going to carry those traits to his offspring.”

A foal of 2003, Mister Big is a son of Grinfromeartoear 1:50.2, the sire of Inter Dominion champion and Hunter Cup winner Mr Feelgood, and the Jate Lobell mare World’s Sweetheart, the dam of three in 1:53 from her first three foals.

Stallion Station chairman Gary Lyons said: “We are very excited about this opportunity to work with Joe Muscara and his family to bring MISTER BIG to Australasia, to stand alongside the established sires COURAGE UNDER FIRE and MACH THREE. They will provide a great opportunity for breeders in the lucrative futurity stakes schemes in Australia and New Zealand.”

MISTER BIG was fully booked with 150 mares in his first season at stud in North America at the prestige Tara Hills Stud in Ontario, Canada.

MISTER BIG will stand for a fee of $7,700 including GST in Australia and $7,000 plus GST in NZ.

Mach Three’s young American stock flying

Champion sire Mach Three, who is the only sire ever to leave classic winners in five countries with his first crop, is enjoying a banner year with his two-year-olds in both Hemispheres in 2009/10.

In America Mach Three has been represented by some promising two-year-olds including the unbeaten Mach It Big 1:53 and Some Mach Some Win 1:56, who won eliminations of the Battle of Waterloo at Grand River Raceway, Canada last Monday (July 26).

Both will be strong contenders for the $300,000 Final on Monday night (August 2).

Of Mach Three’s 30 two-year-old starters, 10 are winners and five gone in 2:00 or better. They have earned $232,072 to date this season.

Meanwhile, in Australia, Mach Three has left  8 two-year-old winners from a crop of 30 foals to be riding high on the winners-to-foals percentage sires’ list. They are headed up by the brilliant Attackamach 1:57.5, who scored at Bendigo and Cobram before placing whilst parked in a Breeders Crown heat at Kilmore.

Mach Three’s small New Zealand crop this year has already produced 3 winners including a talented filly in Collectable 1:58.3, winner of the $100,000 Group 3 Delightful Lady Classic at Alexandra Park.

Mach Three is again the leading stakemoney sire of three-year-olds in NZ and is third on the All aged list with $1.8million.
