Cosmic on 'Fire'The New Zealand-bred Courage Under Fire gelding Cosmic Under Fire is the horse-of-the-moment in Tasmania, winning 6 of his last 9 races and taking his earnings to a healthy $212,202. He further underlined his strength and stamina with consecutive wins in elite company at Launceston on October 10 and 24. The lone backmarker off a 40 metre handicap in the Big Park Show Cup, Cosmic Under Fire out-toughed nine rivals to prevail in a slogging finish with a 58.1 seconds last half. A fortnight later he raced without cover throughout to capture the Bullock Consulting Free-For-All, running the final quarter in 27.9. Cosmic Under Fire, who holds a record of 1:57.9, has won 24 of his 68 starts to date and will be a force to be reckoned with in the rich Tasmanian carnival in December. Mach Three Colt wins $100,000 FeatureThe Mach Three colt Ise The By Boy was the leading light of an all-star cast on the final Championship night of the Ontario Sires Stakes Grassroots program at Western Fair Raceway last Saturday (October 23). Competing in the $100,000 final for three-year-olds, Ise The By Boy went three-wide in the home stretch, chasing down the early pacemaker Good Bad Lucky, getting up in the final strides for the career-best 1:54.2 triumph. The win elevated Mach Three into second place on the overall Ontario Sires Stakes sire Premiership for 2010 with progeny earnings of $1.42million. He is the leader on the two-year-old colts and geldings' list and runner-up in the two-year-old fillies and three-year-old colts divisions. Heads Up On SafariStanding in only his second commercial season at stud former champion pacer Safari is proving very popular with the breeders after server a whopping 231 mares in his first year. Interestingly Safari's youngest foals are actually now yearlings with part owner Clayton Tonkin, serving 4 of his own mares, with others when Safari came off the track the previous year. These 4 yearlings have given breeders an early insight into the progeny of the well bred champion. "The yearlings are amazing. Obviously I am biased but how could you ask for better conformed yearlings, they are just simply stunning. I am keeping them all!" Tonkin stated. The yearlings are giving breeders a real insight into his potential as a sire, showing lovely conformity, correctness and size. Safari was a real fighter on the track, winning 11 group and listed races on his way to becoming one of the richest and fastest sons of the great Fake Left. Safari's own pedigree also boasts 2x2 cross of Albatross and 3x3 cross of Meadow Skipper and three strong strains of the world renowned mare The Old Maid. His blood lines indicate he is going to cross well with a variety of mares. |
Safari x Katies Secret filly Pacific Fella Mare in 1:57.3The four-year-old Pacific Fella mare Gorgeous An Divine earned a new speed badge of 1:57.3 and enhanced her broodmare potential when she trounced a field of maidens at Tabcorp Park Melton last Friday. It was her second win and she looks to have the potential one would expect of her breeding. Bred by Kevin Newbound, Gorgeous An Divine is the first foal of the Albert Albert mare Boast, who ranks as a half-sister to the multiple WA classics winner Wirrpunda 1:54.8 ($221,626) and the Moonee Valley winner Ostentacious 1:59.1. Their dam, Vonnie Franco, was by Ok Bye from the Van Dieman mare Van Glory 1:59.6, a NZ Great Northern Oaks winner who established an outstanding family of winners. Others tracing to her include the triple Derby winner Mon Poppy Day, champion filly Under Cover Lover, Amongst Royalty 1:55.1, Parthenon (WA Oaks) and Exotic Lover.
