Magic Crosses - Part 2

Mach Three

As you would expect, Mach Three has some excellent crosses which are worth noting. The Matt’s Scooter line has a real affinity with the blood of Spinster anywhere in a pedigree and the presence of Race Time seems to be an extremely important genetic factor in producing top racehorses.

The Race Time/Spinster nick with Matt’s Scooter has continued through to Mach Three. Some recent success stories include:

  • Devil Dodger (out of a Live Or Die/Die Laughing/No Nukes mare)
  • Sir Lincoln (Beach Towel/French Chef/Meadow Skipper mare)
  • Auckland Reactor (Soky’s Atom/Albatross mare)
  • Russley Rascal (Road Machine/On The Road Again mare)
  • Captain Joy (Talk About Class /Niatross/Albatross mare)
  • Millwood Meg (Falcon Seelster/Warm Breeze/Bret Hanover mare)
  • Charlotte Brew (Caprock/Jate Lobell/No Nukes mare)
  • Somebeachsomewhere (Beach Towel/French Chef/Meadow Skipper mare)

Safari

Standing his second commercial season at stud, he is one of the fastest and richest sons of the great Fake Left. Fake Left crosses well with a number of bloodlines, highlighted by the all-time champion, Blacks A Fake who, like Safari, is out of an Albatross line mare.

As Albatross doubles up well, Safari would be compatible to mares with any Albatross blood. He is also ideally placed to cross over any mares with Direct Scooter blood (a noted ‘Golden Cross’).

The Fake Left progeny and sirelines of note include:

  • Blacks A Fake (Vanston Hanover/Albatross mare)
  • Be Good Johnny (Talk About Class/Niatross/Albatross)
  • Miss Galvinator (Preux Chevalier/Lumber Dream)
  • Robin Hood (Vanston Hanover/Albatross)
  • Fake Denario (The Southside/Meadow Skipper)
  • Alta Serena (Smooth Fella/Most Happy Fella)
  • High Calibre (Soky’s Atom/Albatross)
  • Smooth Crusa (Smooth Fella/Most Happy Fella)
  • Pleasing Package (McKinzie Almahurst/B G’s Bunny/Albatross)

Major In Art

Major In Art is about to commence only his second season at stud ‘Down Under’. The son of Art Major has filled out since leaving at the end of last season and is as close a resemblance of Art Major as you could get. He has all the credentials required to be a success at stud and continue the bloodlines of his sire.

Art Major is crossing well with a wide variety of mares including those with No Nukes blood (producing Major Mark, Renaissance Man, Sheezallatitude, Stunnin Girl and Sushi Sushi) and Cam Fella (For A Reason and Major Bronski).

Major In Art  is the most exciting sire ever to come to the southern hemisphere. Not only was he the 2008 2YO of the Year, he is from a daughter of the sensational broodmare sire Jate Lobell from the maternal family of The Old Maid, the most influential broodmare of all-time.

A doubling of the blood of The Old Maid and her dam Spinster has had the greatest impact on standardbred breeding in the modern era. Major In Art, an outcross himself with no double-ups in his first four generations, has his pedigree further enhanced by having the full brother/sister Dancer Hanover/Tootsie Hanover (Adios-The Old Maid) in his pedigree.

This can be accessed by breeding to a wide range of mares with the blood of French Chef (Beach Towel, Dancing Master, Frugal Gourmet, Souffle), Live Or Die, Falcon Seelster and his sons, Presidential Ball, Toliver Hanover and Thorpe Hanover. Any stallion with Albatross would also add a dose of Spinster.

Mares from No Nukes stallions will likely be a good cross with Major In Art. They include the Jate Lobell sires Safely Kept, Caprock, Village Jasper (3x3 reverse sex cross), Live Or Die, Badlands Hanover, Northern Lights, Town Champion, etc.

One of Art Major’s best and brightest stars, Art Official (the only horse ever to beat the champion Mach Three pacer Somebeachsomewhere), also standing at Stallion Station, was out of a Falcon Seelster mare, a cross that should strike a chord with ‘Down Under’ breeders.

His first foals are just arriving and the reports are that they are outstanding types. Here are just a few:

Righteous Hanover

Righteous Hanover is by champion sire Western Hanover from the greatest broodmare of all-time Rich N Elegant.

Righteous Hanover is from the maternal line of one of the great modern day foundation mares, Golden Miss (20 wins), the family of outstanding champions and successful sires Strike Out, Riyadh, Safely Kept, Panorama and Grinfromeartoear.

North America’s outstanding 3YO this year Rock N Roll Heaven is by Righteous Hanover’s ¾ brother Rocknroll Hanover, by Western Ideal from Rich N Elegant. Rock N Roll Heaven is out of an Artsplace mare as are his other 3 top performers.

This success that has worked with the Abercrombie line has also worked for his brothers Richess Hanover and Rustler Hanover and will also work with Righteous Hanover. They have also had good success with mares boasting French Chef, Falcon Seelster and Bret Hanover blood.

The success with the Bret Hanover line is no surprise as Righteous Hanover has no trace of Bret Hanover in his pedigree.

He should also have an affinity with mares by sons of Albatross and also return the Most Happy Fella blood through the Cam Fella, No Nukes and Tyler B lines.

Majestic Son

Majestic Son provides a real opportunity to breed to an outstanding racehorse with exceptional bloodlines. His champion sire Angus Hall (full brother to champion racehorses and sires Andover Hall and Conway Hall) is from the same family as Arndon, the sire of the great Sundon.

Of real interest to breeders is that some of Sundon's best performers have emanated when bred to Angus Hall's family including All Action Son, Sunseeker, Sunny Action and Sundon's Luck.

The three full brothers have crossed well with a very wide range of damsires including:

  • Ø  Hickory Pride (sire of Game Pride )
  • S J's Photo (also suit Pegasus Spur mares)
  • Super Bowl, American Winner, Supergill (Continentalman & Malabar Maple )
  • Ø  Balanced Image (Earl, Brylin Boyz & Monarchy)
  • Ø  Pine Chip (Dream Vacation)
  • Ø Speedy Crown (Armbro Invasion, Grant Our Wishes, Pernod Eden, Gee               Whiz & Straphanger)

Majestic Son himself is out of a King Conch mare. King Conch has crossed well with the blood of: Cumin (CR Commando); also Super Bowl/American Winner; and Balanced Image/A Go Go Lauxmont (Earl, Brylin Boyz, Monarchy). King Conch is also from the same family as Donerail, a very successful sire of trotters in North America.

Town Champion

Town Champion’s oldest progeny are now three-year-olds, and he is an outstanding outcross stallion for Cam Fella, Abercrombie, Direct Scooter, Falcon Seelster and Most Happy Fella blood.

He has already sired Final Champion (Fake Left/Cam Fella) and Who Thru Teddy (Perfect Art/Artsplace/Abercrombie).

His sire The Panderosa (No Nukes) has crossed well with a wide range of mares including Abercrombie, Most Happy Fella, Albatross, Direct Scooter, Big Towner and Cam Fella.

We would expect Town Champion to cross well with the Abercrombie line. Mares by stallions such as Life Sign, Dream Away, Modern Art, Artiscape and Albert Albert would be suitable matches.

His dam, Canadian Broodmare of the Year, Town Sweetheart by Big Towner has produced 2 in under 1:50, 7 in 1:53 and 9 in 1:55 including successful sire Northern Luck by Camluck ($907,000), V P Finance by Abercrombie ($685,000), Bear Dance by Presidential Ball ($509,000),Town Champion ($439,000), Sweet On Art by Artsplace ($217,000), Mystic Mark by Life Sign ($187,000) and Bet The Town by Bettor’s Delight ($148,000).
