Mach Three Youngster Wins $170,000 Group 1

The Mach Three two-year-old gelding Twin B Legend notched his first Group 1 success and secured second position on the Ontario Sires Stakes earnings list when he out finished his rivals in the $170,000 OSS Gold Final at Mohawk last Saturday (October 9).

Twin B Legend

Despite spotting the leaders three lengths at the top of the stretch, Twin B Legend knuckled down to the task in resolute style and completely swamped his opponents in the latter stages.

Saftic, who drove the winner said: “Halfway down the lane, I thought I was going to be second and I was thinking that's not bad but the colt kept digging." The time for the mile was 1:52.2 with sectionals of 26.8, 29, 27.8 and 28.6.

Another Mach Three colt, Some Mach Some Win, finished third, ahead of the $1million Metro Pace winner and early pacemaker Mystician (4th).

Mach Three’s progeny completely dominated the race with five of the nine runners in the Group 1 sired by him.

Twin B Legend, who holds a record of 1:51.4, now has three wins and three seconds from nine starts with earnings totalling $114,050. He became the second son of Cam’s Card Shark broodmare What An Attitude to win an OSS Gold Final last week. The gelding’s half-brother Twin B Warrior was victorious in the three-year-old pacing colt Gold Final at Windsor Raceway earlier in the week.

Stallion Station Sires Dominate Rich Ontario Sires Program

Mach Three and Royal Mattjesty are ranked second and seventh respectively on the All Aged sires’ list of this year’s Ontario Sires Stakes series. The program, for two and three-year-olds of both sexes and gaits, is the richest Sires Stakes scheme in the world with more than $20million distributed annually.

Mach Three’s progeny had earned $1,248,420 in OSS races this year and he trails the leader Camluck by a mere $40,000, according to the Standardbred Canada computer on October 11.

Royal Mattjesty, with only two crops racing, has Stake earnings of $379,340, ahead of Life Sign, Million Dollar Cam and Apache’s Fame.

Mach Three is the leading stake-earning sire of two-year-old colts and geldings and is lying second on the three-year-old colts’ table, while Royal Mattjesty is ranked in the top ten in respect of prize money for two and three-year-olds of both sexes.

The Mach Three trio Twin B Legend ($95,000), Mach of Ballykeel ($91,200) and Some Mach Some Win ($83,300) are ranked second, third and fourth respectively on the two-year-old colts’ table, while Gold Final winner Monkey On My Wheel ($117,500) and Shipp’s Xanadu ($73,300) are among the leaders in the two-year-old fillies’ Premiership.

Lucky Taryn and The Big Macher, a pair of Mach Three fillies, are running 1-2 in the OSS Grassroots 2YO section.

In the three-year-old colts’ division Mach Dreamer ($205,600), a dual Gold Final champion, holds a commanding lead, while the Royal Mattjesty lasses Heavenly Ash ($51,120) and Bay Girl ($51,000) are riding high on the fillies’ table.

In fact, Heavenly Ash is the overall leader in the Grassroots Series with four wins from six starts and seasonal earnings of $68,170.

Mach Three Colt Tops Ready To Run sale

The Mach Three two-year-old Basshunter was knocked down for $90,000, the highest price of the day at the Ready To Run sale held at Addington, Christchurch on Wednesday (October 13).

The colt, who is the 16th foal of a Mercedes mare, Madam Jodasc, had been one of the fastest triallists at Ashburton a month earlier. He reeled off a half in 55.6 seconds.

The youngster was secured by big spending Brisbane owner Dean Shannon and trainer Darrell Graham, who outlaid $391,000 for eight lots.

“We had a brother to him called Bradnich Sam, he was by Cam's Trickster and did a super job. This fella's not unlike him and being by Mach Three he has the potential to be even better," Graham said.

A pair of other Mach Three colts to sell well were Mach Danny (ex Soky’s Atom mare Sokin Rain) and Hugh (ex Holmes Hanover mare Penthouse) which realised $42,000 and $24,000 respectively.

Mach Danny had trialled in 56.2 and Hugh in 57.3.

Alta Sinatra (Mach Three -Minni’s Folly-Tuapeka Knight), who had worked a half in 55 seconds, was passed in at $70,000.

Major in Art’s World First Foals

As reported on Harness Link news recently, the reports coming though about the first crop of foals anywhere in the world have breeders, and Stallion Station really excited. Major in Art was purchased off the track and syndicated to a group of Stallion Station breeders last year and served over 220 mares in his first season, with the first of these, now being foaled down. We have had some really positive feedback about the conformation and athletic types he has thrown. The stallion's North American owner is on his way to Australia to investigate the foals for himself on hearing of the types.
