‘Somemebeach’ in world record equalling 1:46.8

Somebeachsomewhere’s feat of equalling the world mile race record of 1:46.8 in a $134,000 division of the Bluegrass Stakes at The Red Mile on September 27 not only wrote his name into the record books again but helped him capture the US Trotting Association’s Horse of the Month award for September.

The charismatic son of Mach Three and the Beach Towel mare Wheres The Beach set all the fractions on the way to matching the mark set by the five-year-old Holborn Hanover at The Meadowlands in 2006.

His time shaved 0.2 off the world record for three-year-olds established by Art Official in the Meadowlands Pace in July.

Somebeachsomewhere, who also won a $124,386 Simcoe Stakes division in 1:50.2 at Mohawk during September, has now banked nearly $2.5 million in his career - $1.7 million of it this year - and has won 17 of his 18 lifetime starts.

The colt is currently locked in a ‘race’ with top trotter Deweycheatumnhowe for US Horse of the Year honours. He is expected to time trial at The Red Mile later this month in an attempt to lower Cambest’s all-time record of 1:46.2.

He is scheduled to enter stud duties at Hanover Shoe Farms in Pennsylvania next year at a fee to be announced.

  • Stars On The Beach, an Astreos half-brother to Somebeach-somewhere, fetched the excellent price of $150,000 in the opening session of the Lexington Selected Yearling Sale.
